Rappelz is known for its rich and in-depth pet system, featuring a massive variety of pets with different appearances, skills, and combat abilities. Epic 7 introduces an all new Creature Enhancement System, to provide players with an entirely new way to upgrade Rappelz’s legendary combat pets. By combining two tamed creature pets of the same type, it is possible to generate a much stronger creature. Once your pet is upgraded, users will get to experience increased stats, additional item slots, additional job points, new skills, and a brand new look.

In addition to the new Creature Enhancement System, Rappelz will also be introducing a new pet like no other: the Death Tyrant. This vengeful spirit is more than just rusty metal. A dignified knight who suffered great injustice before his untimely death, his soul remains as haunted suit of armor. Filled with revenge and spite for those responsible for his demise, the Death Tyrant uses all of his skills to bring down his foes. Able to deal significant damage, the Death Tyrant can decay the flesh of his enemies, turning their skin into rot, rendering them Undead.

But creatures are not the only ones to benefit from Epic 7; guilds will also be greeted with a number of new changes and features. Guilds leaders will now be able to create ranks for their guild, allowing guild members varying types of access and powers depending on their assigned title. Additionally, new UI features let guild members view all of their dungeon raid information easily.

In Epic VI: Resurrection, the most sinister villain in Rappelz makes her triumphant return: the Witch. Gala-Net Inc. will launch "Rappelz Epic VI: Solus Aurum" on October 14th on its free-to-play game portal, gPotato.com, in North America. Epic VI: Solus Aurum brings a brand new dungeon as well as new pets to Rappelz.

In Solus Aurum, players will discover 3 new pets to tame: Octopus, Genie, and the Naga. The giant Octopus is a pet focused on melee fighting whereas the Genie will be one of the strongest but rarest pets available, bringing fear and destruction upon enemies through ancient desert magic. Players were introduced to Naga as the fierce monsters from Navislamia, and with the release of Solus Aurum, the Naga are now tameable as a pets. Players who can bring this warrior wizard to their heels will have this pet’s might on their side in battle.

In addition to new pets, Solus Aurum brings a brand new dungeon for high level players. Inspired by Egyptian mythology, the Sanctuary will bring new challenges to Rank VI players. Its ultimate boss, the Solus Aurum Aurumis, is one of the toughest monsters in the game. After completing these challenging new battles, players will be able to enter a brand new marketplace, allowing them to buy and sell their loot more efficiently. Other features, such as a new character creation lobby, will also be included as part of this update.

Rappelz, the free fantasy MMORPG where you can tame terrible creatures and bring them into battle with you, is now more challenging with the new Golden Monarch expansion. Bringing a brand new dungeon as well as brand new creatures, the new content will be available this September on French, German and Turkish versions of the game.

With the Golden Monarch expansion, players will discover 3 new creatures to tame. The Kraken, a giant octopus focused on melee fighting, as well the magician Tafari, have been seen as simple monsters since the Navis Lamia expansion. The third creature, a Djinn coming directly from Arabic tales, will be one of the strongest but rarest creature available, bring fear and destruction upon his enemies through its use of ancient desert magic.

Besides these new creatures, the Golden Monarch expansion brings a brand new dungeon for high level players. Inspired by Egyptian mythology, the dungeon of El Kassia will bring new challenges to Rank VI players, with its ultimate boss, the Golden Monarch Rà, being one of the toughest monsters in the game.

After completing these new tough battles, players will be able to enter a brand new market place, allowing them to buy and sell their loots more efficiently. Other features such as a new character creation lobby will be included as part of this update.

The MMO world is saturated with many different titles. Some games shine with their brilliant delivery and aesthetics, while some games don’t make the cut. Rappelz can be considered one of the latter. We can definitely call Rappelz a classic, being a 2 year old game. However, not all classics are worth playing anymore in this day and age. Rappelz still has a huge playerbase and frequent updates, but it doesn’t hide the fact that the game has nothing innovative or revolutionary.

The Rappelz site offers a general plot for the game, dividing your character selection to three races: Deva, Gaia, and Asura. Each race has three different jobs and specific progressions, but it all falls to three common stereotypes: melee, caster and summoner classes. Sadly, the site’s story is insignificant to the game. Quests offer no real content about the Rappelz story, and instead give you dialogues of the quest giver’s personal whim. Like most MMORPGs, Rappelz inevitably turns into a grind game once you reach higher levels.

Players start out at a very slow pace. The game requires the character selection screen to be locked with a different password, a thankful precautionary measure similar to Requiem: Bloodymare, disabling any further access from any attempted hacking. As your character sets foot in-game, the NPC gives a short welcome and the start of a long yet rewarding tutorial quest chain. Luckily, for those impatient, the tutorials can be skipped by teleporting out of the island and into the mainland. Once your character reaches level 10, the first job change is unlocked.

Character building is very basic. Stats are automatically distributed according to your profession. Progressing job levels and enhancing equipment are the only chances to provide stat modifiers. On the other hand, job points earned from quest rewards and grinding are spent on increasing job levels and specific skill levels. However, higher progressions of the skill and job level require insanely large amounts of job points, forcing your character to keep grinding for hours on end. Rappelz also offers the staple item upgrading and socketing, nothing remotely special, since the later parts of the game will inevitably require the use of upgraded equips. In addition, a rare energy called “Lak” can be collected and exchanged for chips, items that increase physical or magical damage for a certain duration. The Lak system is a nice touch, but it only strengthens the fact that Rappelz is a boring grind.

The game gives emphasis on the pet and guild war features. All players have access to pet summoning and command skills up to a certain extent, thus enabling the familiar to aid the character offensively and defensively. Advanced pet skills are left to the summoner class. Guild wars, on the other hand, provide a unique twist in the form of dungeon territories, instead of towns. Otherwise, the benefits seem all too the same, reaping the taxes and having free entrance privileges.

A game of more than 2 years old is definitely showing signs of its age. Visuals are bland and bleak, much like an old Playstation 2 game. Sounds could have been done better, but it does complement the overall ambience of the game. Add that to the monotonous gameplay and you’ve got a game that should’ve been shelved a long time ago. Loyalists and MMORPG purists may derive short pleasure from it, but for new players, pass this one up.
